After 15 years of corporate accounting and finance leadership, helping corporations understand their financial position and recommending ways to improve it, I realized I would rather provide this underrated service to small businesses and emerging companies to give them the edge. I always wondered why they often don’t have a process to understand their financials to the level where they can make real changes. It turns out that effective accounting and finance is expensive, not combined together, and the traditional models were not designed with smaller organizations in mind. My experience in the back end of accounting systems led me to take on the challenge of creating a solution for everyone, financially savvy or not. I knew I did want to continue the best parts of my role, working with people and empowering them to make better decisions.
